Google and Amazon Need to Get it Together

Image
Let's start this out with a disclaimer; this is an opinion/rant. Do with it what you will. We all know there is some stiff competition between the two Titans; Google and Amazon. But can they please get over their back-and-forth bickering already? It is costing their users like you and me a lot of missed entertainment! About the time Amazon started selling their FireTV devices, they decided stop selling Google products that it saw as direct competition. At the time, this included Google's Android TV devices and has grown to include their Google Home Smart Assistants. Amazon has even gone so far to not just exclude these devices from its search results, but actually display THEIR devices instead! Note the search results for "google home": In an act of apparent retaliation, Google has pulled its YouTube service from availability on Amazon devices. Quid Pro Quo, eh Google? This has gone back and forth several times, with occasional arrangements bringing t

A Little time with Verizon's Nexus 6 (aka Xperia Z3v versus Nexus 6)

Yesterday, the communications rep at my place of work advised me she had a few pre-release Verizon Nexus 6 units on hand. You see, for the past 6 years or so, I have been the go-to for putting new Android devices through the paces before opening the floodgates for every Jo and Jane Schmo to request one for themselves. This is, however, the first time I've done so with a phone that wasn't "officially released" yet. A couple of things I can confirm: The Verizon Nexus 6 has got Android 5.1 Lollipop.  Our rep stated all she did was put in the sim cards and power these on; she did not perform any type of system updates. There is none of the usual Verizon bloatware/crapware pre-installed on this device! No Verizon/VZW Apps No Softcard (which is technically about to be put to pasture anyway) Not even that damned NFL Mobile App! Spoiler Alert: The above two points, I imagine, are really the only Verizon-specific aspects of this mini-review. The remaining t

Outrage and Disgust over Dead Island: Riptide promo

Image
Apparently in the UK and Australia, the developers of Dead Island:Riptide have a somewhat unique promo going on for the release. The special edition will include a mutilated female torso statue. And apparently many people are none-to-happy with this idea, even going as far a calling it disgusting and disturbing. Here's a picture of the special edition torso from Amazon: Maybe it's me, but I find this to be quite a sweet inclusion in the special edition package. Let me just go on the record to say Drunken Tech Blog has absolutely no problem with this torso statue, not in the least. And really; where were all these people bitching and moaning about how grotesque the packaging was for the special edition of The Walking Dead Season 2 on Blu-ray? Seriously? It was a mutilated zombie head with a screwdriver jammed in one of it's eyes! It was friggin' brilliant!  These kind of things are designed for a mature market and reflect the content in the games/movies/
